Jean Wadleigh passed away peacefully with her daughter Elizabeth by her side at the Magog Hospital in the early morning of May 3rd, 2025 in her 96th year.  She was the youngest of two daughters to James McIntosh and Margaret Robertson.  She was predeceased by her sister Catherine McIntosh MacCallum, her husband Edward Wadleigh and her youngest daughter Catherine Ann Wadleigh and her nephew Andrew MacCallum.

Jean was born in Newport, Vermont.  She grew up in Graniteville, Quebec and later moved to Beebe, Quebec.  Jean was a graduate of the Bugbee Business School at Stanstead College.  She worked as an office assistant at Butterfield’s before starting her family.

Jean loved to read, sew, and quilt.  Knitting and needlepoint were also favourite activities of hers.  Jean enjoyed cooking for others especially when it came to making Scottish marmalade for church sales and Christmas bazaars.  Jean always looked forward to warm weather where she would spend hours in the garden.  Summers at the cottage in Fitch Bay, Quebec with her family were days filled with love, laughter, good books and sun-filled days.  She was an avid animal lover who had many dogs and a few cats around the house throughout her long life.  She believed that no family was complete without a pet in the home.

Jean leaves behind to mourn, her daughter Elizabeth, niece Dr. Margaret MacCallum and her family and nephew Ian Wadleigh.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date this summer.  A special thank you to Joel, Lorraine, Noreen, Penny, Pauline, Nathalie, Amy, Joanne, Amanda and for the friendship and care bestowed upon Jean.  Also to Dr. Menard, Kim, Karina and Louise from the Stanstead CLSC who kept a close eye on Jean’s well-being and treated her with care and compassion over the years.  Knowing that she had these wonderful people in her life brought her much peace and comfort.  Thank you to the nursing staff and doctors of the 6th floor at Magog Hospital for making Jean comfortable in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, Jean’s wishes were to have donations made to the Frontier Animal Society (2405 Griffin, Ogden, QC J0B 3E3) in her memory.

There will be a celebration of life service for Ted, Jean and Ann on July 5th at the Cass Funeral Home, 545 Dufferin, Stanstead, Quebec at 1:00 p.m., followed by the internment of ashes at the Beebe Plain Cemetery, Principal, Stanstead, Quebec at 2:00 p.m.
